Tamworth Boxing star Ryan Hatton continues to make the headlines
Tamworth Boxing’s very own Ryan Hatton is continuing to make the headlines – and the history books – after winning his SIXTH national title.
Ryan is now statistically one of Tamworth’s most successful ever boxers, and aged just 20, this is only the beginning. 2017 is going to be a big year for the heavyweight as he prepares for some big competitions which will hopefully get him well on the road to his Olympic dream.
The sixth title was secured in the National Association of Boys and Girls Club’s Championships at Wycombe Wanderers’ Adams Park, where Ryan beat his old rival Vidal Riley, who has two European Championships, a World Championship and a Youth Olympic appearance under his belt.
Ryan has now won titles at schoolboy, junior, youth and under 21 levels. He has his sights set firmly on the British University Championships in February, and more importantly, the Elite Championships in May.
Ryan has previously reached the quarter and semi-finals of the Elite contest and is hoping to go all the way this time. Winning that would set him in good stead for an Olympic place.
Tamworth Boxing coach Alan Keast said: “Ryan is the ultimate success story. He came to us for full-time education when he was just a young teenager after being excluded from school. We were his last chance. He has worked hard since then to get to where he is today and is also now at university studying sports science.
“Winning his sixth national title is a fantastic achievement. Ryan is already recognised as emerging talent for England, but realistically he needs to win the Elite Championships as part of his Olympics campaign. 2017 is definitely going to be a big year for him.”
