Tamworth Boxing starts the year with another fantastic funding boost

We are delighted to reveal that Tamworth Boxing has been awarded £5,000 from the Aviva Community Fund towards our ‘Break Out’ project to create a vibrant new outdoor playground and classroom.

We received an incredible 3,115 votes in the Aviva campaign and our thanks goes to everyone who took the time to vote for us. Added to the £8,000 we have been allocated through the Tesco Bags of Help fund, it means we almost have all the money we need to transform the unused piece of land that links our CornerPost Centre base in Orchard Street with the adjoining Christadelphian Church. This will give us an outdoor facility for the first time.

Tamworth Boxing is currently undertaking an ambitious project to completely refurbish the derelict church to expand our offering to the community. It will be used in partnership with Tamworth Boxing by Creative Choices – an organisation which works with adults with disabilities and special educational needs.

The rundown building will be completely regenerated to include full disabled access and the first Changing Places toilet in Tamworth.

Break Out will enable us to provide a range of outdoor activities for the first time, for the benefit of the 10,000 people who use the CornerPost facilities every year. We want to provide new fences and surfacing, a range of educational and play equipment, new equipment for some of our existing health and fitness sessions and plants and shrubbery.

We work in partnership with various local groups and the yard will be used by many of the people we support including young children at risk of exclusion and children and adults with disabilities. We will also be able to increase the range and type of recreational activities we offer.

This is a huge step forward towards our vision of becoming a hub for the whole community, but none of it would be possible without the dedication, support and help of the extended Tamworth Boxing family and all those who take an interest in what we do and what we are trying to achieve.

What a great way to start 2017!
