Curriculum

Principles;

  • Inspire aspiration and excellence through engaging, exciting and stimulating activities and environments;
  • Develop and challenge every child to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to succeed as learners as they go forward with their lives;
  • Ensure equal rights of access to the curriculum, irrespective of ability, gender and ethnic or cultural background;
  • Instil the values of democracy, liberty, respect and tolerance.

  • In mainstream schools, the Early Years Foundation Stage addresses the needs of children up to the age of 5; Key Stage 1 addresses the needs of children up to the age of 7; and Key Stage 2 addresses the needs of children up to the age of 11. CEC is not a mainstream school, but is acutely aware that pupils will be returning, following a smooth transition, to such an environment. There is, therefore, a strong focus on basic skills so that children are more able to access the wider curriculum in their new or original school with greater ease.
  • Broadly, CornerPost Education Centre follows the national expectations of the Early Years Foundation Stage; National Curriculum for Key Stage 1; and National Curriculum for Key Stage 2 whenever possible. Occasionally, there is a need to access appropriate requirements for Key Stage 3.
  • The curriculum at CornerPost Education Centre is focused on the need to improve the life chances of the children that it serves. The rapid gains in each child’s emotional development is of key importance and is a significant part of the CEC’s success.
